In an author’s text prepared by prof. dr. Slobodan Čikarić, radiation oncologist, general Slobodan Petković, diplomat Vladislav Jovanović and prof. dr. Danica Grujičić, neurosurgeon-oncologist, it is pointed out that the data on the victims and damage caused by the 1999 NATO bombing of FR Yugoslavia using depleted uranium ammunition suggests the conclusion that NATO deliberately committed a kind of genocide in FR Yugoslavia.

According to estimates of the victims of the NATO bombing of FR Yugoslavia, which lasted 78 days, about 1,000 members of the Yugoslav security forces and between 1,400 and 4,000 civilians were killed, including 81 children, but these are not the only victims.

As the authors state for Večernje novosti, NATO, which at the time of the aggression against FR Yugoslavia had 19 members and today 32, continues to kill “delayed and long” after the end of the NATO aggression against FR Yugoslavia.

The NATO campaign against FR Yugoslavia, called “Merciful Angel,” was groundlessly and hypocritically assessed in the West as “the most precise air operation with the least collateral damage in history,” although NATO unequivocally violated international law, among other things, due to the use of depleted uranium ammunition.

As the authors of the text state, during the 78 days of continuous air campaign, NATO aviation carried out 38,400 military aircraft flights over our country, of which 10,484 were attacks, 23,614 pieces of live ammunition were used in these war actions, and our country was showered with 15 tons of depleted uranium, which, according to experts, “proven to contain carcinogenic substances.”

Expressed in numbers, the consequences of depleted uranium bombing are frightening because, according to data from competent medical institutions, a total of 700,000 malignant diseases have been recorded in our country, 400,000 deaths, and 10 percent are the result of depleted uranium poisoning from NATO bombs.

In addition, one of the effects of showering FR Yugoslavia with depleted uranium bombs is the birth of children with psychophysical malformations and the increasing number of people with sterility.

As our experts state in the author’s text for Novosti, due to the extremely long half-life of depleted uranium, “NATO will kill us for a long time, from a distance, insidiously and with a delay.”

These data on the number of killed, sick and dead from malignancies related to depleted uranium with which NATO contaminated our environment during Operation “Merciful Angel” lead to the conclusion that the aggression of the North Atlantic Alliance against FR Yugoslavia is a kind of genocide committed intentionally and deliberately, the authors of the text present.

The merciful angel of the NATO alliance showered Serbia with about 15 tons of depleted uranium (U-238) during the 78 days of bombing, which amounts to 186 giga becquerels (GBq) or 18,600 Bq per capita in Serbia, and the allowed content of this toxic substance in a liter of drinking water is 80Bq, the authors state and add that the half-life of U-238 is about 4.5 billion years.

The authors appeal for joint efforts by state institutions, scientists and researchers to examine the behavior of contamination created during the NATO aggression in the environment and its impact on the health of Serbian citizens and say: “It must not be forgotten.”
