Željko Tanasković has been re-elected President of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), further confirming Serbia’s standing in global sports.
Belgrade was the center of the school sports world this week, as the Electoral General Assembly of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), held in the grand hall of a Belgrade hotel, reaffirmed Serbia’s prominent position and reputation in this field. Legendary Serbian volleyball player and distinguished sports official Željko Tanasković was re-elected as president of this prestigious global organization.
The Serbian capital welcomed more than 100 delegates from all five continents. Tanasković entered the election as the sole candidate for a new ISF term and was entrusted with another mandate in the most emphatic way possible—by acclamation and with several minutes of thunderous applause from representatives of national federations from around the world.
In addition to electing the president, the Assembly also selected three vice presidents of the federation. There was considerable interest in these positions, resulting in a closely contested secret ballot to determine the leadership order.
After the votes were counted, Antonio Hora Filho of Brazil was elected First Vice President. Youssef Belqasmi of Morocco became Second Vice President, while Teng Lianshuai of China was elected Third Vice President.
The importance of the event for the Republic of Serbia and global sports was underscored by the presence of the country’s highest-ranking officials.
The special guest at the Electoral Assembly was Serbian Prime Minister Dr. Đuro Macut, who addressed those in attendance, emphasizing the importance of school sports for the healthy development of young people and the future of society as a whole. Prime Minister Macut warmly congratulated Željko Tanasković on his convincing victory and new mandate. Also attending on behalf of the Serbian Government were Deputy Chief of Staff Nebojša Pešić and the Prime Minister’s Sports Adviser Branko Jovčić.
The Assembly was also attended by Serbia’s Minister of Sports Zoran Gajić and the minister’s Chief of Staff Jovan Knežević, who expressed their full support for the ISF leadership and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between state institutions and school sports.

With the re-election of Željko Tanasković, the successful era of modernization and development of school sports at the global level will continue.
Under his leadership, the federation has launched a number of reforms and innovative projects aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, inclusion, and the spirit of sportsmanship among schoolchildren around the world. The International School Sport Federation is now entering a period marked by the implementation of numerous new activities, competitions, and programs that will further strengthen the role of sports within education systems worldwide.
“When I took over the leadership of the International School Sport Federation several years ago, my goal was clear—to provide children around the world with the best possible conditions, the joy of competition, and true sporting values. Today, seeing more than one hundred delegates from all five continents unanimously placing their trust in me fills me with indescribable pride, but also tremendous responsibility. When the whole world gives you this kind of support, there is no stopping. I promise that we will work even harder and with even greater dedication, and that in the years ahead we will organize even more international events and launch projects that will permanently transform school sports on a global scale.
I am especially proud that Belgrade hosted such a magnificent gathering. The hospitality and the high level of organization have once again demonstrated how highly respected Serbia is around the world. I sincerely thank Prime Minister Dr. Đuro Macut and Minister of Sports Zoran Gajić for honoring our Assembly with their presence and sending a strong message about how much our country values sport and the education of young people.
