Marco Island, located in southwest Florida, was among those ordered to evacuate due to Hurricane Milton. However, not everyone heeded these warnings.

Michael Sean Comerford (65) revealed to CBS News that he decided to stay behind to look after his parents’ apartment. He’s barricaded himself on the 23rd floor of his building while his parents evacuated to their daughter’s place in Naples.

“I’m prepared, the island is closed. I have food and water for the next two days”, he said.

Michael shared that he’s not the only one who remained in the building.

“I expect the power to go out due to the hurricane. I feel like I’ll survive. I know we’re not the most at risk, but it’s definitely going to be unpleasant”, he said.

He revealed that he plans to document everything he experiences and publish a book about climate change.

As a reminder, officials in Florida are awaiting daylight to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Milton, which continues to sweep across the state.
“We don’t know what we’ll see when morning comes,” Tampa City Council President Guido Maniscalco told CNN.
He described the overnight winds as “terrifying” and said he’d never seen or heard anything like it in all his years living in Tampa.
He also mentioned that there are no open hospitals within an 80-kilometer radius, as hospitals in Charlotte County and nearby Englewood closed ahead of the storm.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s weather radio station, which monitors seven central Florida counties, is currently offline.
