“OPPOSING TERRORISM AND RADICALIZATION”: Consul Božović condemns terrorist attack outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade

Dr. Vladimir Božović, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, issued a statement following the terrorist attack outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade.

In his statement, Božović said:

“As Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, a city home to a large and vibrant Jewish community, I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on the member of the Gendarmerie who was guarding the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade.

I express my full support for our security forces, whose swift, decisive and effective response neutralized the attacker and protected the Israeli Embassy.

This senseless act reminds us of the need for constant vigilance and a determined stance against terrorism, radicalization and violence motivated by religious or national hatred. I once again emphasize the Republic of Serbia’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, including terrorism fueled by religious or nationalist extremism.

Serbia’s firm commitment to fighting antisemitism and protecting the dignity, security and religious freedoms of the Jewish community represents, in my deep conviction, a shining example not only in Europe but throughout the world. As Serbia’s representative and a diplomat serving here in New York, I am particularly proud of this commitment and the values it reflects.

The friendship between the Serbian and Jewish peoples has deep historical roots, further strengthened by the immense suffering both peoples endured during World War II — the genocide committed against the Serbian people and the Holocaust against the Jewish people. Preserving the memory of innocent victims carries a lasting moral obligation to stand against hatred, intolerance and violence wherever they emerge.

I consider it my human and diplomatic duty to share this message with the public, and especially with the Jewish community in New York: Serbia stands with you in defending the right to live in peace and security, freely practice your religion and preserve your identity.

There is no place for antisemitism and terrorism in our society. Our solidarity must be unequivocal, and our determination unwavering,” the statement by Dr. Vladimir Božović, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, said.
