Slavoljub Muslin, the former coach of Serbia, the man who brought the “Eagles” back to the big stage and led them to the 2018 World Cup, spoke for Sport Klub about the current situation in society and once again expressed his belief that changes are possible if capable people take matters into their own hands.
The man who was done a great injustice by being dismissed from the position of head coach immediately before the World Cup believes it is bad that politics has been interfering in sports for a long time. Nebojša Višković spoke with the celebrated coach in Miami.
“Everything is tainted by politics, that’s a shame, because everyone should do their job. Unfortunately, we have one ‘selector’ who determines everything for us—how we will live, who will play basketball, who will play football and all other sports. This applies to all spheres of our life. He understands everything—what we should eat, when we should eat. Whether it’s parizer or eggs, when we should go to sleep and how much we should sleep. He determines everything.”
Will it finally be better when we no longer have that shadow over us?
“I hope that we will set off on the European path. We see that all the countries around us, which were part of the former Yugoslavia, have taken a different path and are better off than us.”
His support for the young people fighting precisely for those changes is unquestionable.
“That is the least I could do for them. Our generation failed because we were cowards. We did not know how to enable those young children to be educated, to live their lives, to spend their best years properly. And not to spend time on the streets, being beaten by thugs.
It is our duty to support them. I hope that these young, smart people will push through to the end,” Muslin concluded.
