The Stojković family has gone through a true ordeal, fighting first for the life, and then for the health, of their younger son, Veljko. Doctors in Serbia had given up on him long ago, giving him only three months to live.

More than three years have passed since then, and in their fight, the Stojkovićs have come all the way to America, where they found doctors and therapy at the renowned Mayo Clinic. This treatment was a turning point for their Veljko, giving him the chance to start living a life like his peers, to go to school, and to play with his friends and brother.

The excellent results from the therapy at the Mayo Clinic now need to be advanced with an examination and new therapy from one of America’s most famous doctors and specialists for Veljko’s condition. However, this time the Stojković family needs the help of good people. Veljko’s father, Darko Stojković, reached out to the Serbian Times to share their story.

“Our son Veljko (4) has been fighting a rare disease, autism, and serious neurological and metabolic problems since birth. Today, he is better than ever, thanks to his incredible strength and our daily fight. The fight for Veljko never stops.”

“In November, we have a new opportunity in Georgetown, Texas, with Dr. Arthur Krigsman, one of the leading pediatric gastroenterologists for children with autism. An American research foundation is covering all the medical examinations and procedures, but we are left with hospital costs of $6,000, as well as associated travel and living expenses (tickets, accommodation, food, and transport) of about $5,000.”

“We need a total of a little over $11,000 to give Veljko this valuable opportunity for a better life and to get answers in the field of gastroenterology.”

“Veljko has been fighting severe problems for a long time: he cannot have a bowel movement without enemas or the constant use of laxatives. The medications cause additional neurological problems, and because of nausea, he often refuses to eat by mouth, and in his bad phases, he can’t even chew. Because of this, it is urgent to solve the small intestine problem, as tests clearly indicate a disorder in that area.”

“Every donation or sharing of our story means the world to us. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stands with us!” says Veljko’s father, Darko.
