Celebrated director Emir Kusturica has on several occasions supported student blockades and protests, which evidently did not sit well with the top authorities. Namely, his restaurant Visconti Mokra Gora has been suddenly shut down, Danas reports.
“Considering the facts stated in the record of the tax inspection performed on the recording of turnover via electronic fiscal device and the engagement of employees, we inform you that an irregularity has been identified for which a temporary ban on performing activities is foreseen, which will be implemented on July 25, 2025,” states the tax inspector’s report from Užice, to which Danas had access.
“Aleksandar Vučić’s and Siniša Mali’s award for the best village in the world, at least by UNESCO standards,” Kusturica commented briefly.
From Praise to “Enemy of the State”
Danas reminds that Novak Đoković, the world’s best tennis player, and celebrated director Emir Kusturica, once endlessly praised in pro-government tabloids, have now become the main “enemies of the state” simply because they supported the students. A harsh campaign is being waged against them in pro-regime media, accusing them of colored revolutions and concocting scandals against them.
On Informer television, Dragan J. Vučićević made a series of insults directed at Emir Kusturica, due to his support for students and for demanding the release of detained protesters in Užice, further accusing him of being part of a “colored revolution.”
Kusturica had previously opposed the actions of the current government, primarily their intention to mine lithium in Serbia.
“I am ready to lose my life in the fight against those who destroy the environment, that is, those who wanted to mine cobalt, nickel, or lithium on the territory of Serbia,” the director said last year.
