Jugoslav Gašić, a candidate on the Student List from Kosovo, said today that there would be no cooperation with the Serbian List because, as he explained, “there can be absolutely no cooperation with someone who has been primarily and directly responsible for the situation Serbs find themselves in throughout this entire period”.
“They hold certain institutional positions that we cannot influence, but those positions will not protect them from potential criminal liability for the actions they have committed. There are various mechanisms, and the most important thing is that they will be subject to oversight,” Gašić told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), according to a report published on the broadcaster’s website.
As he added, “I think it is clear to everyone that those responsible for the situation in which the Serbian people find themselves have no moral right whatsoever to tell anyone what they should do. I can assure the people that they have absolutely nothing to worry about: no form of financial assistance will be discontinued.”
“My message to Serbs here is that, during this transitional period, until we have effectively taken over power, they should not fall for the various rumours spread by the Serbian List, claiming that they will lose their salaries and social benefits, or that we are supposedly going to abandon Kosovo, and so on,” Gašić stressed.
Speaking about the outgoing authorities in Belgrade and their attitude towards Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, he said they had claimed to care about their people and presented themselves as patriots, while in reality betraying the national interests of Serbs in the region.
He stated that representatives of the new authorities would review everything agreed upon through the Brussels Agreement and other international agreements, in order to determine what action could be taken and reverse all the negative decisions that could still be corrected.
“We are fully aware of how the former authorities in Belgrade treated the people of Kosovo and Metohija. Their dignity was taken away through pressure, the imposition of political will and blackmail involving their jobs. If nothing else, I expect that some of the first results we see very soon will be the people’s liberation and freedom to at least express their opinions, thereby restoring the dignity they have lost,” Gašić said.
