“They didn’t like how they looked at the counter, how they talked, how they behaved… They really watch everything”, she said.
A Serbian woman who has been working in the Bahamas for several seasons has shared her experience of living and working on this exotic island. On TikTok, where she goes by the username @ivukajlović, she posted a video explaining how she got a visa and what she went through in job interviews.
“As for the visa, I went through a job interview, I applied on the website of the US embassy in Belgrade. The first interview was for a work visa, I also applied for a tourist visa. Back then, the visa cost $160, and the interview lasted maybe five minutes. Of course, it happened that people were rejected even though they had all the papers. They simply didn’t like them. They didn’t like how they looked at the counter, how they talked, how they behaved… They really watch everything,” she said.

What does she do in the Bahamas?
Then she told the details of her job in the Bahamas.
“I work for a shipping company on their private island which belongs to the Berry Islands. When I arrived, I worked as a lifeguard in a water park. Our contracts are for six months, and then we go home for two months. I worked as a lifeguard for three contracts, also on the beach, and then I did jet ski tours, kayak tours, and zip-line. You work seven days a week, from morning to afternoon”, she explained.
She says that the company covers the costs of airline tickets, accommodation, insurance for the workers, and they have three meals a day…
The TikToker says that it’s all enough to live on, but it’s not as glamorous as it might seem to many.
“Of course, it’s not all that glamorous. For example, as far as food is concerned. There are 800 of us living here, it can’t be something wow every day. But you can always find something,” she said. “We live on a small island that is four kilometers long, nothing special. We only see the city when we go home or when we arrive. We don’t spend much time in the city, nor do we have time. We work every day. There are other Serbs here”, she added.
She shares a room with a roommate
She also revealed that she lives in a room with a roommate. They are small rooms with bunk beds and limited space. However, the TikToker says that it doesn’t bother her at all because what they have outside the room is “a real paradise.” In one of the videos, she also showed what the room looks like.
