A real rescue operation took place at Velika Plaža in Ulcinj two days ago, with two people from Čačak as the main heroes – a young man and woman named Lena and Pavle, who joined forces to save a mother and her son from drowning.

Namely, on August 12, the sea in the Ulcinj area was full of waves, but many people were still swimming despite the conditions. As they say, a red flag had also been raised in that area, meaning that swimming was prohibited and that strong currents were present. However, the young man from Čačak had completed lifeguard training.

“At the spot where we were, the water suddenly becomes deep just after the shallow area, which means that someone unfamiliar with the terrain can easily think that most of the water is shallow.”

“While we were returning from the buoys, we heard a mother and child shouting ‘deep, deep’ and ‘help.’”

“We headed toward them without thinking twice”

“My boyfriend Pavle, who had completed lifeguard training, approached the mother, while I swam over to her son. We both grabbed them and managed to escort them to the shore. The mother and boy were visibly shaken and in shock for several hours afterward. Fortunately, everything ended well and we managed to get them safely out of the sea,” she said.

They said that the mother and child were from England and that they were extremely happy that they had found themselves in the right place at the right time and had managed to save them.

Mother and child could not swim

“We were all in shock, both them and us, because everything happened so quickly. Afterwards, we spoke with them. Her husband also came over to us; he had been on a sun lounger at the time and only later realized what had actually happened. He thanked us profusely. Later, we found out that the mother and child could not swim and that they had actually been walking through the water, thinking it was shallow, until they suddenly entered a deep section,” she revealed at the end.
