After the commemoration, a multitude of people walked through Sarajevo and paid their respects to Halid Bešlić. The family, friends, and numerous locals prayed for the repose of the singer’s soul in the harem of the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque. According to the knowledge of Kurir journalists at the scene, there are currently about 80,000 people in Sarajevo who came to say goodbye to the great Halid.
After the prayer, the procession headed towards Bešlić’s eternal home at the Bare cemetery.
A river of people moved behind the column escorting Bešlić to his eternal rest, and according to our journalist Aleksandar Panić, no one came just to be seen, but out of pure love and respect for the character and work of the late singer.
Halid’s son, Dino, was arranging the planks at the grave and, with the efendijas, lowered his late father into the grave, and a river of tears flowed through Sarajevo.
The closest friends carried the body of Halid Bešlić through the mass of people who were saying their final goodbyes to the late singer, and each of them tried to stroke the coffin.
The efendija gave a speech at the beginning of the prayer.
-Esteemed family, friends, we have gathered today at the funeral to lovingly say goodbye to our dear brother who has gathered us here. Life in this world is a journey between the call to prayer (ezan) and the prayer (namaz). On that journey, the only important thing, besides devotion, is how much love and goodness we have given to one another. Halid is perhaps the best example of that love and goodness that a person selflessly gives on that path, and I hope we will draw a message. We pray that God forgives our Halid all his sins and that He admits him among all His good servants – he said.
The inconsolable family, Halid’s grandchildren, stood right next to the eternal place where the singer will be buried.
Dino Merlin arrived at the cemetery and stood next to the hodjas and imams.
According to the estimate of the Sarajevo police, 100,000 people are paying their respects to Halid Bešlić.
The coffin with the late singer’s body arrived at his eternal home.
The column of people was several kilometers long, and it was almost impossible to drop a pin anywhere in the center of Sarajevo.
During the walk to the singer’s eternal home, at one point, the final applause for Halid Bešlić echoed through the entire city.
Emotional Commemoration
A commemoration for Halid Bešlić was held at the National Theater, during which friends and colleagues spoke about his life, music, and above all, his good deeds. The singer’s granddaughter, Lamija, was the first to bravely and proudly take to the stage for her grandfather Halid.
-Grandpa, you know grandpa, we know you are special. Many people love you. We weren’t even aware how many there were. I am musically gifted, and I have someone to take after. I am Grandpa’s lion. I would like you to be with us longer, we miss you dearly. You know grandpa, mom didn’t tell us you left us on Tuesday, but we knew. Grandpa, you are our love, support, and shield. We would like you to be here. We love you – said little Lamija.
