A dramatic rescue unfolded on Thursday in Mostar when an unidentified man jumped into the Neretva River and then disappeared beneath the surface, causing panic among numerous onlookers.
Fortunately, thanks to the swift and composed reaction of members of the local diving club and a kayaking club, a tragedy was avoided.
Footage that surfaced on social media shows the moment of alarm among those gathered, followed by a lightning-fast rescue operation that began just seconds later.
According to available information, the identity of the man remains unknown, although it is believed that he is a foreign national.
The incident occurred almost exactly one year after a similar case at the same location.
On June 27, 2025, another unidentified man jumped from the Old Bridge and landed in the water just beside a boat carrying a group of people.

That reckless act sparked strong reactions from local residents, who warned that such behavior puts not only the jumper’s life at risk but also the lives of others.
Members of the diving club also came under criticism at the time, despite the fact that they are often the first to respond and save lives in dangerous situations.
Although the Old Bridge is one of Mostar’s most famous tourist attractions and a symbol of diving into the Neretva River, experts continue to warn that it is an extremely risky activity.
The bridge’s great height, the river’s powerful current, and the low water temperature pose a serious challenge even for experienced divers, while untrained individuals are strongly advised not to attempt such jumps.
