Actor Milan Marić said that he knows he lost some roles the moment he decided to speak about things he believes are important for this society — things the authorities want to silence — and that he is on a “blacklist.”
“Unfortunately, knowing the kind of society we live in, I partly counted on the fact that I would probably lose some roles and, in essence, become a subject of censorship,” Marić said in an interview for Nedeljnik.
He stated that “it’s true that there are ‘blacklists’ that people talk about timidly and rarely.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have tangible proof, but within the acting community, we know very well that they exist, and they are not exclusively tied to the student protests. They actually began back in 2023, during the crackdown on actors involved in the play Serbia Against Violence,” Marić explained.
According to him, “that’s when it all started, and today the model has only been perfected — now there are simply people who can’t get roles.”
“There are informants who report, social media accounts are monitored, what people post, where they’ve been — all of it is collected and sent to the ‘headquarters,’ where a verdict is made. The sad part is that people from our own profession take part in this censorship process — some very actively, others pathetically, by agreeing to have their cast lists changed for projects,” Marić said.
As he emphasized, “the earth has sworn to heaven that all secrets will be known.”
“None of them will one day be able to say — I didn’t know. You knew, and you consciously chose to do it,” Marić said.
“Just as I know very well that I’m on the blacklist because I spoke my mind — and someone didn’t like that,” he added.
“However, when all this is taken into account, I am essentially at peace,” Marić said.
“And what’s most important to me is that my career has never depended on anyone else’s misfortune,” stated actor Milan Marić.
