COACH DESCRIBES HORRIFIC SCENE: “He Cursed at Me and Tried to Run Me Over with a Scooter, Crossing Over My Board 4 Times; the Police Didn’t Want to Arrest Him”!

Ivan Miković, the coach of the young kayakers aged 6 to 10 from Pančevo who were shocked and suffered minor injuries yesterday, has spoken out and explained how the drama unfolded.

On Tuesday, August 12, during a regular training session for the Pančevo Canoe Kayak Club on the Tamiš River, in which eleven children aged 6 to 10 participated, an incident occurred. A man on a scooter, for reasons yet unknown, approached at high speed, created a wave, and overturned a boat, throwing the children into the water.

Coach Nenad Miković stood on a board to protect the children, but the scooter driver repeatedly steered his vehicle toward him, as evidenced by a video on social media.

Coach Miković explained that a first scooter appeared from the direction of the Danube and slowed down when it saw the children training. However, a second scooter soon arrived, also from the direction of the Danube, and did not stop. Instead, it passed right next to the children, causing them to capsize.

“Some of the children suffered minor injuries. I shouted from the bank for him to slow down so he wouldn’t drown the children. However, he turned around, made another circle, and started spinning around the children. That’s when I took my SUP board and went to protect the children. When he slowed down so he could hear me, I shouted again that he was going to drown the children. Six children capsized and were injured during the incident. He cursed at me and started to run me over. He went over the board and my head on the river four times,” Miković told the portal 013 info.

Coach Ivan Miković also explained to the portal that the people present immediately called the police, who came to the scene, but the first patrol did not arrest the young man who was rampaging with the scooter. After that, as he explained, a second report was made to the Pančevo police, who again came to the scene, and the young man was then taken into custody.

“My paddle was taken away, with which I broke his arm as he was flying over me,” coach Miković stated, among other things.

Miković says that, along with parents and citizen witnesses, he will file a complaint with the Ministry of Internal Affairs against the police officers who first arrived and released the suspect, and a lawsuit will follow later.

Last night, the police announced that, in cooperation with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pančevo, they arrested M. J. (29) from Pančevo on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of endangering public safety. The suspect has been detained for up to 48 hours, after which he will be questioned by the prosecutor’s office.

The mother of one of the children who was at the training told the portal zdravopancevo.rs that her child was injured during the suspect Milan J.’s reckless driving.

“The club coach tried to call out to the man on the scooter and prevent him from continuing his rampage… He circled again and passed by recklessly. Coach Neša entered the water with a boat in an attempt to stop him and save the children… One girl scraped her back when she fell, another child has a knee injury, my child has a bruise on his stomach and a sprained wrist… These are children between 6 and 10 years old. It was hell,” the visibly shaken mother said.
