In the hall of St. Nicholas Church in Chicago, a donor evening was held for the construction of the Church of the Holy Transfiguration in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the first Orthodox church in the Caribbean.
The church, led by priest Evstatije Azdejković and whose foundations were laid four years ago, has since been put under a roof, and now it is time for it to fully resemble an Orthodox shrine with its interior ornaments, frescoes, altar and other details…
The parish, which was the last in America to get its roof over its head, has taken on the duty of helping to complete the church in Punta Cana.
The Church of St. Nicholas was solemnly consecrated four months ago, and its parish priest, Nemanja Tešić, together with business people from the parish, led by Radomir Dobrašinović, decided to help the first Serbian church in the Caribbean to shine in its full glory.
Others responded to their call, and at the donor evening organized by three ladies, Kiki Dobrašinović, Marina and Tijana Živanović, as much as 50% more money was raised than was originally the goal.

Father Evstatije addressed those present via video message from the Dominican Republic, who explained in detail how far they had come in equipping the Church of the Holy Transfiguration (which is an architectural copy of Herzegovinian Gračanica), and thanked them for their efforts and gratitude.
During the evening, a raffle was organized with valuable prizes, the most valuable of which was a trip for two to the Dominican Republic, so that the winners will have the opportunity to visit the church for which they donated money.
Biljana Đorđević and Mile Vujnović were in charge of the musical part of the program.
Thanks to the money collected at the Donor Evening in Chicago, the church in the Dominican Republic is one step closer to its planned appearance, and a special curiosity is that not only Serbs pray to God in it, but all Orthodox peoples who live on the island, Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians, Bulgarians, Georgians…
