Outgoing U.S. President Joseph Biden will ban new offshore oil and gas exploitation along most of the U.S. coastlines, the White House announced today.
The statement says that the ban will protect all U.S. federal waters along the eastern and western coasts of the United States, as well as the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico and parts of the northern Bering Sea in Alaska.
The ban will cover 253 million hectares of ocean, the statement emphasizes.

Trump likely won’t be able to reverse the decision
President-elect Donald Trump has promised to boost domestic energy production, but it is unlikely that he will be able to overturn Biden’s ban, reports Reuters.
Biden stated that this move aligns with the agenda to combat climate change and the goal to preserve 30 percent of U.S. land and waters by 2030.
