In Derventa, the testimony of Serbs who were imprisoned in the Croat-Muslim camps of Rabić and the former JNA Army Hall began before American investigators. Today, the hearing of two camp inmates.
Five investigators will, over the next few days, with the mediation of SIPA, hear eight former camp inmates at the Basic Court in Derventa.
“Today, it is planned that two camp inmates will be heard. It is assumed that they are gathering data on persons residing in America who committed crimes in Derventa during 1992, having successfully avoided being punished for it so far,” said the president of the Association of Camp Inmates Derventa, Drago Knežević.
Knežević says that they now have some hope that this issue will move in a positive direction.
“American prosecutors are interested in what was done in the camps. They selected eight camp inmates. As for the suspects, there is a suspicion that some moved to the USA, that they changed their names and surnames. They thought justice would not catch up to them,” Knežević stated.
He hopes that something will change. “Now the prosecutors will hear what kind of suffering we went through. Here there are families whose members were all killed and no one was held accountable. We do not trust the BiH judiciary. But now we hope that justice will see the light. We believe in it, because the investigators came from America,” Knežević emphasized.
This is the first time that American investigators and prosecutors are coming to Derventa to gather testimonies about the suffering of Serbs.
