Two members of the Security Service of the District Prison in Belgrade walked nearly 450 kilometers from Belgrade to Ostrog in 15 days to attract public attention and raise as much money as possible for the treatment of four-year-old Sofija Laković and ten-year-old Feđa Alković.

Together with four other members of the Intervention Unit 92, a colleague from the Special Antiterrorist Unit, and little Sofija’s father, they set off on March 23 from the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Belgrade toward the Ostrog Monastery, having previously received the blessing of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr. Porfirije.

On that occasion, Patriarch Porfirije said that the journey to Ostrog is not just a physical effort, but above all a spiritual feat in which every step becomes a prayer for those who need help the most.

Their humane mission was also accompanied by bad weather conditions, snow, and cold weather, which made their walking difficult, but did not deter them from the desire to persevere until the very end.

“Our colleagues have managed for the third year in a row to achieve their goal in the intention to help collect as much money as possible for children who are dealing with difficult diagnoses as best as they can,” said the director of the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Dejan Carević. He pointed out that the patriarch’s blessing this time was an additional encouragement along with their dedication to involving as many people and organizations as possible in the fundraising. In this regard, Carević said that even before their departure, the Administration informed employees throughout Serbia about the humanitarian action of their colleagues from Belgrade in order to financially support their exhausting journey and send support of solidarity to the families of the two little ones.

“Colleagues from all over the country have for years been financially helping with the purchase of medical aids, the work of the Red Cross, children’s shelters, the purchase of New Year’s packages and toys for children of lower social status,” said Carević.

Little Sofija from Belgrade has a diagnosis of epilepsy, mixed developmental disorders, and spastic paralysis of all limbs, and funds are needed for BDA treatments, specialist examinations, rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, physical therapy, medications, supplements, as well as for speech therapy and somatopedics treatments, orthopedic aids…

The boy Feđa from Podgorica underwent surgery for a malignant brain tumor in 2019 and has already been receiving treatment at a hospital in Turkey for a year, where, according to doctors’ opinions, he needs to stay for another year to continue receiving the necessary therapy.

All those who wish can pay money for the treatment of four-year-old Sofija Laković to the giro account of the “Budi human” foundation at number 160-6000001811235-90 or by sending the number 1599 to 3030. Money can also be paid to the foreign currency account 160-6000000857075-03, IBAN RS35160600000085707503. For little Feđa from Podgorica, funds can be paid to account 510-0210988215028-20 at Crnogorska komercijalna banka in the name of the boy’s mother, Milena Alković.
