Serbian fighter Aleksa Čortan has claimed the silver medal at the Amateur MMA World Championships, which are being held in Tbilisi.
The Serbian athlete reached the final of the junior under-93kg division after securing two impressive victories. In the quarter-finals, he comfortably and convincingly defeated Kazakhstan’s Radomir Morozov with an arm-triangle choke in the very first round. He then produced a spectacular knockout in the second round to bring an end to Ukraine’s Stanislav Lemeshko’s campaign in the semi-finals.
However, Russia’s Platon Lebedev stopped him in the final. Although he missed out on the gold medal, the young Serbian representative has every reason to be proud of his achievement, having won silver at a major international competition.

Other Serbian finalists also contributed to the success in the Georgian capital. Alongside Čortan, Dževad Baltić will also compete for the top spot in the senior heavyweight division.
“They left their hearts in the octagon, fought until the very last ounce of their strength and gave everything they had. Both bouts were decided by the judges, and our guys demonstrated character, courage and an enormous desire to win. There is still a lot of work ahead of us, room for improvement and major challenges, but also plenty of reasons to believe in this team. One team, one flag, one goal! We continue tomorrow. Everyone behind our Dževad, who will fight for world gold in the final against the champion from Angola,” the federation announced.
