The arrest of the director of Jovina Gymnasium was preceded by his failure to comply with court rulings, parent Goran Radojev explained. They are also calling for the director’s removal.

“In May this year, he suspended five teachers at Jovina Gymnasium, and the contract of one of the suspended teachers expired because she was employed on a fixed-term contract. She had been working on fixed-term contracts for ten years. Four teachers filed a request with the court to be reinstated, and the court ruled that they should return to work pending the conclusion of the proceedings, but the director refused to comply with those rulings,” our interlocutor said.

He also said that an acting school director should be appointed and Stojković removed from his position.

Dismissed teachers file lawsuits

In a statement, the dismissed teachers at Jovina Gymnasium said they had filed ten lawsuits against the school director the previous day, seeking the annulment of decisions terminating their employment. The decisions were based on amendments to their employment contracts that had never been agreed upon but had instead been unilaterally imposed by the director.

“On August 31 and September 1, the director verbally informed experienced teachers, some of whom had worked at the school on fixed-term contracts for more than a decade, that they had been dismissed. After making considerable efforts to obtain written decisions terminating their employment so that they could exercise their rights as unemployed individuals, the teachers decided to seek judicial protection against the director’s arbitrary actions. Through their lawsuits, the teachers are seeking the annulment of the decisions through which Stojković terminated the amendments he had himself imposed. Although employment contracts and amendments to employment contracts cannot be imposed unilaterally, the law apparently does not apply to Stojković,” the statement said.

As a reminder, the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bačka Palanka announced yesterday that the director of the “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj” Gymnasium in Novi Sad had been arrested.
