President of the Socialist Party of SerbiaIvica Dačić said that the party will run independently in the elections and rejected speculation that talks are being held behind the scenes with the Serbian Progressive Party about a pre-election coalition.

“The SPS Main Board supported my announcement in July that we would run independently in the upcoming early parliamentary elections and that we would have our own presidential candidate. This was unanimously supported by 500 people, which was the number of those present at the party’s Main Board session,” Dačić told today’s Politika.

“We have long been running in a coalition with our traditional partners, namely United Serbia and Green Serbia, and nothing has changed in that regard,” the SPS president said.

He also stated that it had been agreed within the Socialist Party that SPS municipal, city and district boards must submit lists of candidates for members of parliament, as well as candidates for president of the Republic, by August 25 at the latest, adding that the upcoming presidential elections could be expected at the end of December or in January.
