Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French leader Emmanuel Macron signed a letter of intent at a military base in Villacoublay, the content of which is currently unknown, and Zelensky called the document a “historical agreement” that defines long-term cooperation between the two countries.
“This will be the largest air defense system in the world,” Zelensky told several journalists, as reported by BFMTV.
The document was signed at a table set up on the runway of the Villacoublay air base, in front of aircraft and air defense systems.
The Élysée Palace, a few minutes after the signing of the letter of intent, announced that Ukraine will purchase up to 100 Rafale aircraft, air defense equipment, and drones from France.
Reuters previously reported that Zelensky plans to sign an agreement with France today on the delivery of air defense systems, military aircraft, and missiles.
It is noted that negotiations on whether France could provide Ukraine with greater military support have been ongoing for several weeks.
On October 24, after the meeting of the “coalition of the determined,” Macron announced that France would provide Ukraine with additional Mirage fighters and Aster ammunition for the SAMP/T air defense systems.
