The Georgian basketball players managed to defeat Spain at the start of the European Championship and thus create the first big surprise at EuroBasket 2025.
The Georgian team, led from the bench by Serbian coach Aleksandar Džikić, shocked the current champion of the Old Continent, Spain.
The final score was 83:69, and Georgia dominated throughout the entire match and deservedly celebrated.
Georgia led from the first minute and won the opening quarter with a score of 20:17. The Spaniards did not give up and came within two points at halftime, with the score being 37:35.

When many expected Spain to speed up the pace and justify the favorite role, Džikić’s Georgia continued to play a great game and won the third quarter with 20:14, so they had an eight-point lead before the fourth quarter (57:49).
The Georgian national team players did not stop; they kept pushing until the end of the match, and in the end, they reached a convincing 83:69.
The best player in Aleksandar Džikić’s team was Sandro Mamukelašvili with 19 points, and he was followed by Bitadze (15) and Šengelija (13).
For the Spaniards, Juancho Hernangómez stood out with 13 points, while Aldama scored one less.
