Citizens gathered in front of the Basic Court building at the call of students in a blockade to put pressure on the judicial authorities to release, as they claim, political prisoners. Members of the Police Intervention Unit in full riot gear are in the court building and courtyard.

Let’s recall, in their call, the students stated that they will block the work of the court in Novi Sad every day until all those who were “detained without evidence, and against whom serious criminal and misdemeanor charges have been filed” are released.

Six people who are charged with attempted aggravated murder in the “Cobras” case are in custody; specifically, five were ordered to be detained in the district prison in Klisa for 30 days, and one person was ordered to be under house arrest for up to three months due to health problems.

Citizens have positioned themselves at all four entrances to the building and are not allowing anyone to enter.

The police are present in the building and behind the fence at the back entrance.

For now, it is peaceful, and employees are not far from the building and are not entering.

The citizens are making noise by blowing whistles, vuvuzelas, and beating drums.

Sutjeska Street is not blocked for traffic.

The students stated that this blockade is an act of resistance “against the unfounded arrests and legal violence that is being carried out these days against our colleagues and friends.”

They demand the immediate release of all who, as they claim, were detained without evidence and against whom serious criminal and misdemeanor charges were filed, “including accusations of assault on an official, violent behavior, disturbing public order and peace, and even attempted aggravated murder.”

In explaining the reasons for starting a new blockade of the judicial building, they point out that so far, their 12 comrades have been detained for up to 30 days.

Six people who are charged with attempted aggravated murder for the alleged attack on members of the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Cobras” during last week’s protest in Novi Sad have been detained for up to 30 days.

Five are in prison in Klisa, while the sixth, due to a worsening health condition, is under house arrest with electronic surveillance.

Citizens previously protested in front of the court building on Sunday and Monday, when it was decided to start the blockade of the building today.
