Elzan Bibić, a military official and member of the sports unit of the Military Academy of the University of Defence, broke the national record in the 5,000-meter race at an athletics meeting in the town of Oregem in the Kingdom of Belgium, the Ministry of Defence announced.

The athlete Bibić finished second in the second group, running the 5,000 meters in 13 minutes, 13 seconds, and 06 hundredths, thereby improving his own national record from 2024, which he set in the Spanish city of Huelva, the statement said.

On this occasion, Bibić expressed his satisfaction with the result. “I am very pleased with the race at the meeting in Oregem. From the very start, I felt strong and focused. The new personal, and also national, record is confirmation for me that my training and sacrifices are paying off, and it gives me additional motivation to continue even stronger,” said Elzan Bibić.

In the previous two weeks, Bibić had another notable performance in the 5,000-meter race at the Balkan Championship in the city of Volos in the Hellenic Republic, where he triumphed with a time of 14:03.83 and became the senior champion of the Balkan Peninsula.

With these achievements, he has placed himself in the narrow circle of candidates to compete at the World Athletics Championships, which will be hosted by Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025, the statement emphasizes.
