Director and professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Stevan Filipović, who two days ago became a symbol of civil resistance when he read the oath that Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) members are obligated to uphold in front of police cordons, was detained tonight in front of the Police Department in Majke Jevrosime.
Interestingly, Stevan Filipović himself filmed the moment of his arrest. He stood with his phone in hand, recording the address of Member of Parliament and Democratic Party President Srđan Milivojević, who was reading legal provisions regarding police duties to the officers. At that moment, police officers approached him and detained him without public explanation.
Filipović was among the citizens gathered outside the Police Department building, who came to protest the arrest of two people near Dom Vojske earlier in the day. He was holding his phone and recording the address by Democratic Party President Srđan Milivojević, who was reading police duties to the officers.
Citizens asked why the two individuals were taken away, as, according to the citizens, they were not even on the roadway. Police officers responded that it was due to an assault on an official.
As a reminder, two days ago, during one of the student protests, Filipović stood in front of a police cordon and read the official oath sworn by MUP members, emphasizing that the police protect not the president of the state, but citizens and the constitutional order.
“Not Aleksandar Vučić, but the citizens and other people residing in it,” he said then, in a speech that quickly spread across social media and provoked strong public reactions.
It is currently unknown whether Filipović has been held, for how long, or if any measures have been imposed on him. There is no official information from the police yet, while his colleagues and friends are attempting to obtain more precise data on his status and location.
