A girl from Bosnia and Herzegovina who has been living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a decade says that with a salary of around $3,000, it was possible to live quite well in that city, but that is no longer the case.
Citizens of the United States have been complaining about the financial crisis for years and how prices of almost all products have skyrocketed several times. The cost of living, they say, has increased abnormally, and this is evidenced by a girl from Bosnia and Herzegovina who has been living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a decade and who herself says that with a salary of around $3,000, it was possible to live quite well in that city, but that is no longer the case.
This girl has a YouTube channel called “AdiLand” where she recently told how everything changed after the pandemic. Inflation, she says, has exploded, as have prices.
“Four or five years ago, a salary of $50,000 to $55,000 was quite good for living in an inexpensive city like Pittsburgh. Those $55,000 per year, after all taxes – health and pension, etc., amounted to about $3,200 per month. At that time, for a single person, like I was during that period, it was more than enough. Rent was $1,200-1,300 for a two-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms, and you shared that rent and utilities with a roommate.
Food cost me about $75-85 a week to fill up the entire tank of my Audi cost about $35,” she says.

One could go out to a restaurant, she says, with $50-60.
“You could live quite decently. However, in the last three years, after inflation, the corona, and so much money printing, that’s no longer the case. Do I think you can still survive on $3,000 a month in a cheap city like Pittsburgh? Absolutely, but it would be survival. It’s not the same level of comfort as it was then,” she says.
To compare, she gave an example.
“The apartment that was $1,200 in rent is now $2,000, which is $800 more expensive than five years ago. To fill my tank, it’s no longer $35, now it costs me $57-58. Groceries for a week, which used to cost $75, now won’t be less than $150. I remember before, when you went out to dinner at a normal, ordinary restaurant for $100, you could order “half the restaurant”. That’s no longer the case. Now, if a guy and a girl go to a regular restaurant, have two drinks, an appetizer, and a main course, it costs at least $100,” she says.
However, she says, salaries have also increased. For some…
“Today, to live a comfortable life like you did three years ago in a city like Pittsburgh, you need a salary of $90,000, $100,000. But it all depends on your lifestyle,” she says and adds that prices are rising, but so are wages and that people who want to succeed in the US must be smart and proactive.
“You can’t just sit and wait for your boss to give you a raise, without you asking, without doing something extra or even being willing to change jobs and go somewhere that will pay you more. You simply have to because prices have gotten so out of control that if you just stagnate and don’t look for ways to increase your income or reduce some costs, of course, you will feel this current economic situation.”
