Members of the team of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump are compiling a list of officers to be dismissed, Reuters reported today, citing anonymous sources.
It is claimed that the new administration will likely focus on officers connected to Mark Milley, who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Trump’s first term in office. Bob Woodward, in his book “Rage”, quoted Milley’s statement calling Trump a “fascist to the core.”
According to Reuters, any individual promoted or appointed by Milley will be fired.
Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegset, has expressed his readiness to “cleanse” the Pentagon.
“The next President of the United States should radically revise the Pentagon’s senior leadership so that we are ready to defend our nation and defeat our enemies. A lot of people need to be fired,” Hegset wrote in his latest book “War Against the Warrior: Behind the Betrayal of the People Who Keep Us Free” (2024).
Hegset has also targeted Milley’s successor, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, and a Reuters source confirmed such assumptions, stating that Brown will be one of many officers who will be removed.
Hegset questioned whether current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, holds his position because of his race.
“Is it because of his skin color? Or because of his knowledge? We’ll never know, but we will always doubt,” Hegset stated.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff brings together the highest-ranking officers in the U.S. military, including the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, and Space Force.
The planning for firings is still in its early stages following Trump’s victory in the November 5 election, but such plans could change as his administration takes shape.
However, one source raised concerns about whether such a “mass firing” at the Pentagon would even be feasible, and to what extent.
It is unclear whether Hegset’s lack of management experience could complicate his confirmation in the Senate and whether a more traditional alternative for the position would carry out such widespread firings at the Pentagon.
Additionally, some current and former U.S. officials downplayed the likelihood of such sweeping changes, arguing that such a move would be unnecessary and disruptive at a time of global turmoil, with wars raging in Ukraine and the Middle East.
