A charity event titled “Wheels for Wheels”, featuring the sale of roasted meat to raise funds for tomorrow’s student bike journey from Serbia to Strasbourg, was organized this evening at the University of Novi Sad campus by farmers from the Initiative for the Survival of Serbian Farmers, with support from bikers.
In just over two hours, 1,000 burgers and four roasted pigs were sold.
“Burgers are selling the most, but we also have roasted meat, kulen sausage, cheese, and other traditional cured meat products,” the organizers stated.
Sara Valentik from the Initiative said that farmers from Kisač, the Novi Sad area, Bački Petrovac, Bačka Palanka, and other towns came to support the cause.
“We wanted to help because what the students are starting tomorrow is a big step for us and the entire country. They need support because they are fighting for a common goal—justice for all people in this country,” she told Beta news agency.
As part of the evening’s event, bikers also held an exhibition of their motorcycles.
A 1,300-Kilometer Journey for Justice
Tomorrow, Thursday, April 3, at 08:00 AM, 80 students and academic community members will depart by bicycle from the University of Novi Sad campus to Strasbourg. They will represent four Serbian universities: Novi Sad, Belgrade, Niš, and Kragujevac.
Their goal is to inform the Council of Europe and the European Parliament about the crisis in Serbia and present their demands regarding the tragic death of 16 people caused by the collapse of the entrance canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1.
The cyclists plan to cover 1,300 kilometers from Novi Sad to Strasbourg over two weeks, passing through Hungary, Austria, and Germany.
All participants have tested their endurance during long protest rides across Serbia, and this week, they were selected for the challenge through one-day test rides exceeding 100 kilometers at a set pace of at least 22 km/h.
