Due to the detention of their colleagues, students gathered in front of the Belgrade City Police Administration building to provide support to the detained colleagues.
On Boulevard of Despot Stefan, in front of the Belgrade City Police Administration, students, predominantly from the Faculty of Architecture, have gathered. The street is blocked from the intersection with Cvijićeva to Jovan Avakumović Street.
Ana, a student at the Faculty of Architecture, says that their colleague was detained this morning.
“We gathered to provide support and express dissatisfaction, to send a message that we stand in solidarity and that we will not tolerate repression and pressure on students. Our colleague was detained this morning; on the way to the police station, he tried to call his lawyer and received a blow from an official—we know this based on the information available to us. We believe this is unacceptable, and we want to say that it is one in a series of repressive measures being carried out against students. This is not the first time people have been detained like this, with students being visited at their home addresses, and we want to draw attention to the fact that this is not just, and we will fight against it,” she says.
She reminded that Student’s Day is observed tomorrow, and stated that the rector of the University of Belgrade, Vladan Đokić, was also present at the gathering.
She says they will be there “as long as they have the strength and will.”
“And we have a lot of it. We hope that our colleague will be released as soon as possible, so that we too can disperse,” she says.
