The citizens of Bratunac in Bosnia and Herzegovina recently showed how unity and humanity can be stronger than all divisions. Two young hairdressers, Enver Merdžić (19) and Mujo Imamović (22), decided to organize an unusual action in the city center – haircuts for humanitarian purposes, and all the proceeds were intended to help a young man named Rastko Ivanović.

Rastko suffered a severe traffic accident two years ago while returning from school. He sustained multiple injuries, including skull fractures, an eye injury, a broken leg, a torn arm, and amnesia. His greatest hope for recovery is stem cell treatment in Russia, for which 35,000 euros must be collected by the beginning of October.

Although he hoped that he would somehow manage to raise the money for the treatment, everything indicated that this amount would not be possible to collect in time. However, the young hairdressers, together with their colleagues Emrah Sokolić from Tuzla and Stefan Tomić from Bratunac, cut the citizens’ hair, and all the proceeds were directed to Rastko’s treatment.

What was particularly touching is that these young men do not know Rastko personally, but they certainly decided to help him.

“We don’t know Rastko personally, but we know him from Bratunac. We wanted to show that a person is worth as much as his humanity. We collected about 1,930 KM (about 986 euros). People were thrilled, some even cried when we handed over the money,” said Enver Merdžo for Crna Hronika.

He adds that they don’t care who is of what faith or nation.

“We don’t look at the differences, it’s important for us to help. We are especially happy that we as Bosniaks organized help for a Serb. People were moved, and it is important to us that Rastko goes for treatment and gets well,” said Merdžo.

This event showed that humanity erases all barriers, and Bratunac shone as a city where humanity and solidarity stand above everything.
