The Serbian Film Festival in Washington is proud to announce the return of its annual celebration of Serbian film, which will be held this autumn throughout the American capital.

This year’s festival spans several weekends between September 20 and October 19, 2025, and will feature feature films and shorts, documentaries, live music, panel discussions, and receptions at the Miracle Theatre on Capitol Hill, AMC Georgetown, and several partner locations, including Ambar Clarendon, Busboys and Poets, and the Embassy of Serbia.

The 2025 program opens with two special pre-festival events. On Saturday, September 20, the short documentary film “Zoran” will be shown at the “Busboys and Poets” cinema, introducing the audience to a deeply personal story from the Serbian diaspora. The next day, Sunday, September 21, the Representative Office of the Republika Srpska for cooperation, trade, and investment will host a free screening of the documentary film “Witness 2024” at the Miracle Theatre, highlighting a powerful, true story from the region’s recent history.

On Saturday, October 4, the festival will host a pre-premiere screening of the documentary film “Megdan: Between Water and Fire” at the Miracle Theatre, a visually striking work that explores the world of Serbian MMA fights and their symbolic connection to identity, discipline, and inner conflict.

The main festival weekend is held from October 17 to 19, starting with a solemn opening ceremony at AMC Georgetown on Friday evening, followed by a screening of the critically acclaimed drama “The Son’s Will,” which some critics have called “the Serbian Mad Max.” The evening will end with an opening party, which will bring together filmmakers, audiences, and supporters from all over Washington.

Attention then shifts to the Miracle Theatre, where screenings and events will be held for two full days. On Saturday, October 18, the program will feature the psychological thriller “Isolation,” followed by the touching short film “Behind the Smile” and the moving refugee drama “Among the Gods.” A panel discussion with filmmakers and festival guests will follow, leading to the festival’s Saturday night party at Ambar Clarendon, with live Serbian music, regional wine, and rakija.

On Sunday, October 19, the last day will begin with a special reception at the Embassy of Serbia, before the program continues at the Miracle Theatre for an afternoon screening of the film “Sun Never More.” In the evening, the American premiere of the film “There Will Be New Summers” will be shown, followed by an awards and closing ceremony, which will end with a special surprise screening, the announcement of which will follow at the event itself.

Five feature films will compete for the audience award for Best Film, which will be presented at the closing ceremony on Sunday evening by our festival patron, Gemini Transport.

In its second year, the Serbian Film Festival in Washington continues to grow as a cultural bridge between the Balkans and the United States. All films are shown with English subtitles, and festival pass holders will receive a free, limited edition Serbian Film Festival mug. Tickets are available for purchase online.

More information about the festival and ticket sales can be found on the website www.serbfilm.com.
