Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that today, at the Carpathian Initiative summit in Ukraine, he spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and that he is grateful that Serbia has joined the new format.
Zelensky wrote on X that he spoke with Vučić on the sidelines of the summit in the Ukrainian part of the Carpathians about the agreements reached during his visit to Belgrade on August 7 and 8.
“We discussed in detail the European integration of Ukraine and Serbia, as well as the situation regarding Russian attacks. We will continue our bilateral dialogue,” Zelensky said.
He pointed out that it is important to develop the Carpathian Initiative in a way that allows every country in the region to find the economic and security opportunities it needs.
“We are doing everything in our power to make this happen, and today, together with the other leaders, I will also take part in the first Carpathian Business Forum,” Zelensky added.
Vučić wrote on Instagram that he was grateful to Zelensky for his hospitality and for the opportunity to exchange views during the Carpathian Initiative summit on issues important to Serbia and Ukraine and to the entire region.
“This initiative provides additional space for discussions on better regional connectivity, improving logistical and economic cooperation, humanitarian issues, security, as well as future reconstruction and development. We will continue our regular dialogue and intensify bilateral contacts at all levels, with a mutual willingness to further develop relations between Serbia and Ukraine on the foundations of mutual respect, understanding and open communication,” Vučić said.
Along with Ukraine and Serbia, the new initiative also includes Romania, Hungary, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
