The Serbian 3×3 basketball national team began its defense of the world championship title, which it has won six times.
The Serbian basketball players “broke the ice” in Ulaanbaatar with an important victory over Belgium, probably the most serious contender for first place in Group A.
The winning point in a dramatic finish was scored by Nemanja Barać after a beautiful assist from the brilliant Strahinja Stojačić, who passed the ball to his teammate through the legs of a Belgian player.
Barać was also the most efficient player in the Serbian team with eight points. Stojačić scored seven, Marko Branković five, and Dejan Majstorović one point.
The start of the game did not foreshadow a thriller finish. Serbia entered the duel exceptionally well. They quickly imposed their rhythm and gained a significant lead – 6:1.
The Belgians somehow found an answer. They managed to reduce the deficit to one point (7:6), but Serbia quickly “pulled away” again and then maintained their lead.
It seemed that everything was settled when the scoreboard read 19:13, but once again, 3×3 basketball reminded everyone how exciting and unpredictable it is.
Tibo Vervort strung together seven points and orchestrated a complete comeback. The Belgians took a 20:19 lead and were on the verge of triumph, but Serbia played strong defense in the decisive moments, and Barać rewarded himself with two crucial points.
Defeat to Australia
After the opening victory against Belgium, the Serbian basketball players lost to Australia in the 2nd round of the World Championship in Ulaanbaatar with a score of 21:17.
Our country’s basketball players quickly and easily got into foul trouble, so the Australians had to shoot free throws, which made the Kangaroos’ job much easier.
Strahinja Stojačić and Nemanja Barać dunked twice for highlights, but they failed to wake up their sleepy teammates. The Eagles managed to keep pace with the Australians, who shot great from two-point range. Unfortunately, they ultimately succumbed.
