The Court of Appeals in Novi Sad announced that it had upheld the appeal filed by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad and overturned the ruling of the Higher Court in Novi Sad – namely, the decision to discontinue criminal proceedings against Goran Vesić, Jelena Tanasković, Anita Dimoski, Milan Spremić, Marina Gavrilović and Dejan Todorović.
“The Court of Appeals in Novi Sad, at a panel session held on June 15, 2026, upheld the appeal of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad and amended the ruling of the Higher Court in Novi Sad, Kv 964/25 of December 24, 2025, by confirming, with regard to defendants Jelena Tanasković, Goran Vesić, Anita Dimoski, Milan Spremić, Marina Gavrilović and Dejan Todorović, the indictment filed by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, case No. KTO 112/24 of September 16, 2025, while dismissing as unfounded the appeals filed by the defense attorneys of defendants Nebojša Šurlan, Slobodan Naumović, Milan Jelkić, Ljiljana Milić Marković, Jasna Stojiljković Milić, Zorica Slavković Marjanović and Dušan Janković,” the statement said.
In other words, this decision removes the obstacle to scheduling the trial in the canopy collapse case – everyone included in the first version of the indictment will stand trial.
Let us recall that on July 2, Bojan Pajtić, a professor at the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, posted on the social media platform X that the decision had been made, but that the defense attorneys for the defendants had subsequently, contrary to the law, requested the recusal of certain members of the judicial panel.
Earlier, the Higher Court in Novi Sad struck down the part of the indictment relating to former Minister of Transport Goran Vesić, former director of Infrastructure of Serbian Railways Jelena Tanasković, and several other defendants. The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad appealed that decision.
More than 20 months have passed since the canopy in Novi Sad collapsed onto people below. Three sets of proceedings are currently underway, and only the Novi Sad indictment has been partially confirmed.
