The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 36 drones were shot down in four Russian regions in the early morning hours. Some were believed to be targeting an oil refinery.

Russia reported that Ukrainian drones attacked four Russian regions, including an oil refinery.

The Ministry of Defense stated that it shot down 36 Ukrainian drones:

  • 18 over the Rostov region,
  • 11 over the Volgograd region,
  • 5 over the Belgorod region,
  • 2 over the Krasnodar Krai.

In the Rostov region, Governor Yury Slyusar said that drone debris damaged residential and administrative buildings.

“In Pervomaysky district of Rostov, 68 residents were evacuated from an apartment building. Cars parked nearby were also damaged. Emergency services are on-site. In Chertkovsky district, administrative and residential buildings of a company were damaged. Six workers were evacuated, and emergency responders are at the scene,” said Slyusar.

Later, he reported that a gas pipeline was damaged, temporarily covered with plastic sheets since it could not be repaired during the day.

At least 76 apartments were damaged, and 215 windows were shattered in a drone attack on Rostov-on-Don overnight on February 9, said Mayor Alexander Skryabin in a social media post.

A state of emergency was declared after the Ministry of Defense confirmed that 18 drones were downed over the region.

“Window replacement measurements are being conducted in eight buildings, and work will begin in the remaining six tomorrow,” stated Skryabin.

Volgograd Region

Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed that air defenses intercepted drones targeting an oil refinery in the Kumylzhensky district.

“The regional fire service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations responded quickly. No fire broke out. There was no damage to residential buildings or injuries,” he said, as reported by the Volgograd regional administration.

Governor Veniamin Kondratiev stated that drone debris caused roof damage and shattered windows in five houses, but no casualties were reported.

Belgorod Region

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that about 20 drones were launched into the Belgorod region overnight, with about ten intercepted, likely through electronic warfare (EW) systems.

Power outages occurred, cars and fences of local houses were damaged. Gladkov emphasized that there was no major damage or casualties.

Later, he added that one man was injured, and two cars were damaged when drones struck the Valuysky district.

“As a result of the attack on the village of Nechayevka, a power line was damaged, causing outages in Nechayevka, Bochkovka, Rovenek, and Yasnye Zori. In Dvuluchnoye, an FPV drone attack damaged a car and a fence,” said Gladkov.

Ukraine regularly strikes targets inside Russia to reduce Russia’s ability to launch further large-scale attacks against Ukraine.

An oil refinery was targeted early on February 8 in the Volgograd region.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a new offensive in Russia’s Kursk region.

According to Russian military bloggers, Ukrainian forces allegedly attacked southeast of Sudzha, advancing toward the villages of Fanaseyevka and Ulanok.
