The Chairman of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica and a member of the Presidency of the Serb List, Ivan Zaporožac, was detained less than half an hour ago, after he, together with Mayor Milan Radojević, as well as former Member of the Assembly of Kosovo Nemanja Biševac, sprayed the green heart with red color on the “I love Mitrovica” installation, writes KoSSev.
The Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica adopted a proposal at the end of May, KoSSev reminds, to remove the “I love Mitrovica” installation.
The sign, as they say, still stands on the roundabout in the northern part of the city for now.
Today around 10:30 AM, KoSSev journalists found, as they claim, several members of the Kosovo Police on the spot, as well as the municipal leadership of North Mitrovica.
The municipality intended to remove the sign, as stated, but permission for that did not arrive from the Ministry of Local Government, raising an objection to the fact that the municipality of North Mitrovica is illegally not being allowed to do its job.
Radojević first entered into an argument with the police officers, writes KoSSev, pointing out that confirmation for the decision made by the municipality at the previous session of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica regarding the removal of the sign had not arrived from the aforementioned ministry.
He then accused the police of “not communicating with the municipality”, but rather, as he said, with the “Ministry of Local Government”, it is stated.
“Cooperation is not two-way, cooperation is not in the interest of citizens. I understand your job, but if we want to work in the interest of citizens, and not in the interest of one party,” he said for KoSSev, to which a police officer replied that he was “not acting according to the law”.
Nevertheless, as written, the leadership decided to symbolically repaint the green heart into red, which is how the initial sign looked before the Self-Determination authorities removed it last year.
At the first attempt to apply red color to the green heart, the police stepped into action, preventing the repainting, which resulted in a commotion and shoving with the police, after which the police detained the Chairman of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica, Ivan Zaporožac.
He was taken to the police station.
Currently in front of it are the president of the Serb List, Zlatan Elek, the mayor of the Zvečan municipality, Dragiša Milović, certain members and councilors of this party in the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica, as well as the family of the detained Zaporožac.
