Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo – The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petković, stated that the Kosovo Police stop at nothing, even harassing and intimidating Serbian high school graduates in Kosovska Mitrovica.

“The extent of Pristina’s hatred and intolerance, and its instruments of power, towards everything Serbian is evidenced by today’s unacceptable incident in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, when several Kosovo police officers surrounded, pushed, and provoked a Serbian young man, a high school graduate, grabbing him by the neck and addressing him in Albanian. The question is what more would have happened to the Serbian high school graduate if it hadn’t occurred in broad daylight and in front of numerous witnesses, his fellow citizens and professors, because it is well known that the Kosovo Police, when it comes to Serbian children, overstep their duties, use excessive force, beat, and arrest without reason or question,” Petković pointed out.

He assessed that this is “a picture of the disenfranchisement, oppression, and terror in which Serbs live and to which they are exposed in Kosovo and Metohija, and from which even children are not spared.”

“Such incidents provoked by Kurti’s Kosovo Police show that they are not in northern Kosovo and Metohija to protect anyone, but to provoke and intimidate Serbs and Serbian children. Every parent who witnesses such events is rightly concerned and outraged by such violent actions of Kurti’s mono-ethnic police, which has no business in northern Kosovo and Metohija, least of all grabbing Serbian young men by the neck, pushing them, and trying to separate them from their families and friends,” Petković said.

He believes that “the footage of this shameful act should be seen by all representatives of the European Union and international missions, and they should ask themselves why children everywhere else in the world have the right to celebrate their last days of school with joy, while only Serbian youth in Kosovo and Metohija are subjected to persecution and retaliation from those who seek the slightest and most innocent pretext to demonstrate force over them.”

Zaporozac: End of Schooling to Be Remembered for Violence

The Vice President of Srpska Lista, Ivan Zaporozac, strongly condemned what he described as the physical assault by the Kosovo Police on a Serbian high school graduate in North Mitrovica, evaluating it as a targeted intimidation of Serbian youth.

He stated that the young man was subjected to physical abuse, choking, pushing, and verbal humiliation, solely because of his national affiliation.

“Instead of remembering the end of his schooling with pleasant memories, this young man will remember it for the violence he experienced at the hands of the police simply because he is a Serb, and that on his own doorstep,” Zaporozac said.

This incident, he stated, deeply disturbed parents and citizens who were present at the scene. Zaporozac claims that such actions represent a targeted demonstration of force and an attempt to intimidate an entire generation of young Serbs who should be the bearers of the future in these areas.
