At least 50,000 officials from Iran’s ruling structures and military have registered on a secure platform established to coordinate the overthrow of the government in Tehran, Reza Pahlavi told Politico.
Pahlavi, the exiled son of the last Iranian Shah who was overthrown in the 1979 revolution, announced a month ago that he was launching a channel through which defectors from the regime could register and receive information about the tactics of his opposition movement’s campaign.
Speaking to Politico, Pahlavi said that the numbers still need to be fully verified, but that his team is working to establish connections with key elements in the Iranian army, paramilitary, and security forces, who would have a potential role in overthrowing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and working towards establishing a new secular state.
“It’s tens of thousands—the latest estimate is at least over 50,000, and perhaps more,” said Pahlavi, whom his supporters call “the Iranian Crown Prince,” in a telephone interview.
He added that a special website will also be launched where ordinary citizens of Iran will be able to register their interest in joining the national campaign against the regime.
