Srpska lista announced that it most strongly condemns the actions of the so-called Kosovo police which, by order of Kurti’s minister Elbert Krasnići, before the most joyous Christian holiday of Easter, is removing Serbian flags from public spaces in Gračanica and other areas where the Serbian people live.
“Such behavior represents a direct violation of the basic human rights of the Serbian people, including the right to freedom of expression and the right to preserve and publicly manifest national identity, which is guaranteed by numerous international acts, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights and other conventions regulating the protection of the identity of peoples,” stated the announcement from Srpska lista, adding:
“It is particularly unacceptable and hypocritical that at the same time, throughout Kosovo and Metohija, Albanian national flags are displayed undisturbed, even in front of Kurti in the assembly hall in Pristina, while the Serbian people are denied the same right.”
Srpska lista, in the announcement, emphasizes that “such selective application of rules clearly shows that institutional discrimination directed against Serbs is at work.”
“It is obvious that such moves represent politically motivated decisions of Albin Kurti’s regime, in which his minister, himself a member of a non-majority community, carries out pressure on the Serbian people instead of protecting the rights of all communities, and as an overture to new extraordinary elections,” the announcement says.
Srpska lista demands an immediate and unequivocal reaction from the international community, primarily the European Union, the Quint countries, OSCE, as well as all relevant international organizations, to clearly condemn this gross violation of the rights of the Serbian people and demand its immediate cessation.
“The Serbian people have an inalienable right to freely express their identity, including the display of their national symbols, and no one has the right to deny them that right. Srpska lista will continue to fight with all democratic and political means for the protection of the rights of the Serbian people and demands a clear reaction from international representatives to this flagrant violation of the rights of the Serbian people,” says Srpska lista.
As a reminder, the new flags of Serbia, which were placed today in Gračanica ahead of Easter, are being removed tonight with the assistance of the so-called Kosovo police.
