Roma Party President Srđan Šajn stated that, as part of the months-long “Don’t Sell Your Vote” campaign, they had collected several thousand documents that allegedly prove organized vote-buying among members of their national minority.
In a statement sent to the media, they asked Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac to designate the territorially competent prosecutor’s office to which they could submit the documentation, containing citizens’ personal data, which the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its activists allegedly use in the process of buying votes ahead of the upcoming elections.
Given that the databases are located in different parts of Serbia, it is necessary for Zagorka Dolovac to designate the territorially competent prosecutor’s office. There is clearly suspicion of the organized and unlawful collection of citizens’ personal data being used in vote-buying, which we believe is being carried out by the SNS.
In a written statement, Šajn also said that the fact that SNS leaders have so far failed to call for the destruction of such data “raises the question (…) of the responsibility of everyone involved in this chain.”
They also provided the media with a completed questionnaire that was allegedly given to them by activists who “do not know what to do and are torn between pressure from the SNS and an awareness of their own responsibility.”
Thousands of such questionnaires have been submitted to the Roma Party, and we are prepared to hand them over to the prosecution… The document we are providing to the media clearly shows that these are not merely the personal data of SNS members, but information about entire families, including children, who are certainly not party members. Particularly concerning is the fact that the databases contain information on whether citizens receive social assistance, as well as details of the companies they work for,” Šajn stated.
He also called on all citizens and Roma organizations possessing similar databases not to use or distribute them, but to hand them over to the competent prosecutor’s office.
“In this way, they can avoid further unlawful conduct and potential criminal liability, including criminal proceedings for offenses punishable by several years in prison,” the Roma Party president believes.
