Stefan Nedic presented his version of the story, addressing it on Instagram.
The new member of the elite rank of Croatian football Vukovar terminated the contract with 18-year-old Srdjan Nedic, the guy who stood in the goal for this club.
It was even planned for him to guard Vukovar’s net in the duel against Dinamo, but the club’s management received information that the young goalkeeper was following “controversial pages” on the social network Instagram, among which was allegedly one called “Chetniks 1941”.
The mentioned Instagram profile has only 12 posts and 45 followers, and the last post was from as long as 311 weeks ago.
The now former goalkeeper of Vukovar, Nedic, decided to speak out and present his side of the story.
“As a 12-year-old child, without being aware of the meaning and consequences of my online activities, I followed a page whose content I neither support nor understand today why I did it. The controversial page has not been active for more than six years, and since then I have grown up, changed both as an athlete and as a person.
Today, at 18 years old, I completely understand why my action back then caused pain and anger, especially since I come from a club and a city that has a difficult, painful heritage. I sincerely regret that act and everything that came from it. I’m not looking for an excuse, but an opportunity to show how much I respect my hometown, its history and its people.
I am sorry that the whole situation unfolded in the media, without me having the opportunity to explain my side of the story earlier. I believe that sports should bring people together, not divide them. I sincerely apologize to everyone this has hurt,” he wrote on Instagram.
