The legendary coach has won almost everything in his career, and now he has given an interview to the local „Die Zeit,“ where he pointed out that lately he has been sleeping well, which was not the case for most of his career.
-No, I sleep very well. At the beginning of my career, I experienced everything much more emotionally. Now I have experience and I have become calmer. And I have my own philosophy that I can rely on. This applies to everything: my training methods, the way the team plays in defense and attack, as well as the way I communicate.
Our coach added that he did not want to do anything until the end of the season, but that he nevertheless accepted the offer from the Bavarians.
-Actually, I didn’t want to do anything until the end of this season. I wanted to have more time for my family, especially for my wife Vera. Then Herbert Hainer, the president of Bayern, called me. The club had just parted ways with Gordon Herbert after eight consecutive losses in the EuroLeague. Hainer asked me if I could take over the team until the end of the season.
The former coach of Serbia and Yugoslavia pointed out that he talked about everything with his wife Vera, who is also a great basketball lover.
-I told Hainer that I first wanted to talk to my wife. Vera is also a basketball lover. She played basketball herself. She said that if the president calls you, you can’t say ‘no.’ I wouldn’t have accepted any other club, but I identify one hundred percent with Bayern. It is my club, the club of my heart.
Pešić suggested that he will retire at the end of this season, with the sentence that „it really is enough at the end of this season.“
-I will always be involved in basketball, I will give lectures and the like. But toward the end of my life, I can no longer be the head coach. I know people won’t believe me when I say I’m retiring. But after this season, it really is enough. I have a beautiful house in Barcelona, where part of my family lives. And I want to spend more time in my native Pirot. I want to experience life from a different perspective.
