In June 2025, Nikola Jokić, three-time NBA league MVP and member of the Denver Nuggets, visited Ferrara, Italy, to tour stables and horses, his great passion outside of basketball.
During his stay, he stayed at an accommodation facility run by the wife of Italian anesthesiologist Alessandro Zaparoli.
Interestingly, Zaparoli’s wife did not recognize the famous basketball player.
She sent her husband a photo of the tall guest, stating that he “came to see the horses” and that he was “very tall,” but she did not know who he was. Only after Zaparoli saw the photo did he realize it was Nikola Jokić.
Unfortunately, he did not have the opportunity to meet him personally, which he commented on with the words: “Never, never, no joy.”
This visit was not Jokić’s first to Ferrara; four years ago, together with his father, he also visited stables in the region, including the Zenzalino stable. This anecdote further highlights Jokić’s modesty and dedication to his interests off the court.
