A family from Belgrade experienced an unpleasantness on the Croatian coast, all because someone interpreted the license plates of their car as a provocation.
Namely, as they told Nova.rs, the police informed them that photos of their car were being shared on social media, showing license plates that some understood as provocative because they can be linked to the Battle of Vukovar, due to the combination of numbers and letters. One Facebook user shared a photo of the car and asked his friends to find out where the people who entered Croatia in that car were staying.
The Croatian police informed the family, and the car was urgently moved with a police escort.
However, as they were told, it is currently not possible to remove the plates or put on temporary ones.
“We are in touch with them, the car has been moved, they didn’t want to issue temporary plates,” the family told Nova.rs.
They added that they currently do not know what will happen next, nor in what way the police will secure their exit from the country.
However, as they pointed out, the local population was more than helpful and kind to them, and they did not experience any unpleasantness from them.
