The Serbian basketball players defeated Latvia with a score of 84:80 in the third-round match of Group A of the European Championship.
The best individual of the match was the center of Serbia, Nikola Jokić. The Denver Nuggets ace finished the match with a double-double performance: 39 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
The three-time NBA league MVP prevented the comeback of the Latvians, who were on a roll, with his shots in the finish.
The host of Group A came within two points after a three-pointer by Kurucs one minute before the end, after which Jokić hit both free throws and secured a four-point advantage for Serbia before the last attacks in the match.
Previously, Jokić hit a very important three-pointer, and was also the primary solution for Serbia in attack during the entire match, and especially in the second half.
In the winning team, the power forward of Dubai, Filip Petrušev, also stood out with 12 points and 4 rebounds, the guard of Armani, Marko Gudurić (11 points, 5 rebounds and assists each), and Aleksa Avramović with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Former Partizan basketball player Davis Bertans led Latvia with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Also, the center of the Atlanta Hawks, Kristaps Porzingis, stood out with 14 points and 6 rebounds, as well as Rihards Lomažs with 13 points and 4 rebounds and assists each.
