The ATP has not retroactively stripped Jannik Sinner of the points he won during a doping affair, and because of this, Novak Đoković was also harmed.
Sinner subsequently did not play for three months in the first half of 2025 due to the suspension, and it was expected that he would be retroactively stripped of the 400 points he had won.
That did not happen, and because of this, Novak Đoković was left without one more week at the top of the ATP list.
The Serbian tennis player is not too worried about this information, but…
-Maybe we’ll discuss it if someone gets close, but for now, it’s fine. I haven’t even thought about it. I chased and defended that number one, I was in that position longer than anyone else. One week more or less, for now I’m OK, we’ll see if that changes – Đoković said, as reported by Sport klub.
Let’s recall, Đoković is convincingly the best in tennis history with 428 weeks spent on the tennis throne, Roger Federer is second with 310, while the current ruler Sinner has so far collected 64 weeks in first place on the ATP list.
In addition to the number of weeks at the top of the ATP list, Novak is also the record holder for the number of Grand Slam trophies (24), Masters titles won (40)…
Đoković’s next opponent at the U.S. Open is the German Jan-Lennard Struff. The round of 16 match is scheduled for Sunday local time in New York, and the exact time is still unknown.
