The Ministry of Health has implemented temporary measures at the General Hospital in Čačak following the death of a four-year-old girl, Ema M, who underwent a tonsil surgery on February 4 and died shortly after the procedure. Additionally, on the night of February 11–12, a 38-year-old man also passed away after a tonsil operation.
The incident on the night of February 11–12 marked another fatal outcome during the postoperative period following a tonsillectomy in the 38-year-old male patient.
Although not insured under the national health system, the patient had independently sought the surgical intervention due to long-standing breathing difficulties, fully aware of the risks involved due to other pre-existing conditions.
Upon receiving this information, the Ministry of Health immediately dispatched inspectors to Čačak. By order of the Health Minister, the management of the ENT department at the Čačak General Hospital was temporarily handed over to doctors from University Clinical Centers of Serbia and Kragujevac until a full investigation into the circumstances of the two deaths is completed.
Additionally, the Health Minister ordered the implementation of temporary administrative measures at the Čačak hospital, which includes taking over leadership of the facility for the forthcoming period.
The Ministry of Health once again extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.
