ATTACKER IS THE POLICE CHIEF’S GODSON: Officers Ordered to Immediately Release the Assailant Who Injured Children in Pančevo!

A 29-year-old man from Pančevo was arrested for endangering public safety on the Tamiš River after he used a jet ski to capsize a boat full of children, and then ran over their coach with the vehicle. He was detained, but the public is concerned about a possible cover-up.

A midday training session on the Tamiš turned into a nightmare for parents and children—young kayakers. The scenes, they say, were like something out of a horror film.

“I asked him, ‘Are you trying to drown all the children?’ He cursed at me and started to run me over, crossing over me four times,” the coach said.

“The children were screaming, crying. It was horrifying and shocking for us. At that moment, we were aware that we were witnessing an attempted murder,” said one mother.

“This could have really led to a fatal outcome. It’s a 300-horsepower, 400 kg jet ski, and he was at full throttle. A direct hit to the head would have been fatal,” said the club’s secretary.

The outcome: six children with minor injuries and the coach with somewhat more severe injuries.

“We cried for maybe hours, we were scared for the coach because that man started to run him over with the jet ski,” said one little girl.

“Then he overturned us, and almost drowned us,” said another little girl.

“We were so scared and couldn’t sleep well because of everything,” a third little girl recounted.

What was additionally disturbing for the parents, the coach, and the people of Pančevo was that it seemed, as they stated, that the case was being covered up.

“One of the younger police officers said he had received instructions that he had to let him go, so he, dead drunk, got into a car not far from here, floored it, and sped off. They didn’t confiscate the jet ski, they didn’t do an on-site investigation, they didn’t give him a breathalyzer test. They didn’t do any of it,” the coach said.

The parents and coach have filed a report against those police officers, and, as they state, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against them. The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pančevo is charging the suspect with the criminal offense of endangering public safety.

However, as N1 has learned, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pančevo has also become involved in the proceedings. Depending on the evidence collected during the investigation, that prosecutor’s office could take over the case and reclassify the crime to a more serious one.

Nevertheless, some of the parents believe that this incident is a consequence of the general atmosphere in society. “Where some people interpret that everything is allowed and that the law does not apply equally to everyone, and that is what worries us the most,” said a mother.

Despite everything, they still place their hope in the competent authorities.
