The President of the City Municipality of Medijana, Mladen Đurić, was physically attacked by a man who entered the municipality building. Workers had tried to remove the man because he was inappropriately dressed and, according to the Municipality, visibly disoriented. Police confirm they intervened and that the 31-year-old man was transported to a relevant healthcare institution.
A statement from the City Municipality of Medijana, the only municipality where SNS is not in power, states that the incident occurred today in the morning hours, during an “Open Door Day” event organized at the Municipality building.
“On that occasion, a person inappropriately dressed, visibly disoriented, entered the building of the City Municipality of Medijana and did not respond to verbal contact from officials. The same person attempted to proceed towards the reception area, so an official of the City Municipality of Medijana was forced to react,” the statement reads.
They state that officials then came out to help the municipal administration worker and once again asked the person to leave the City Municipality of Medijana building.
“He took the opportunity and struck the President of the City Municipality of Medijana, Mladen Đurić, after which the Police and the Institute for Emergency Medicine were called,” according to the City Municipality of Medijana.
Police say they received a report of the incident at 10:25 AM and immediately intervened, detaining the 31-year-old man who entered the Medijana Municipality building and struck the President of the Municipality.
“Everything has been reported to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the 31-year-old man has been taken to a relevant healthcare institution. Work to establish all the facts is ongoing,” police stated.
